A Welshman next door?

Created by Joan 3 years ago

We first met Harry and family in 1980 when we became next-door neighbours in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex.  His Mum, bless her, thought at first that Walter's accent was Welsh!

We were soon sharing barbecues in the garden and early morning trips to Calais.  Harry made us all smile that day in Calais when he asked, "I wonder if they sell French bread here?"  He always brightened up our times together with his great sense of humour.

Our friendship stayed just as strong after we moved to Lake Garda in Italy.  Whilst there, we always looked forward to seeing Harry, Stephanie and the boys when they came out on holiday each year.  Perhaps it was then that Harry began to love Italy, the Italian way of life, and the warmth of its people - not forgetting the delicious food and red wine! He might not have know this, but Walter regarded Harry as his closest friend.

We shall remember our times with Harry, smiling with a glass of wine in hand, or perhaps grappa; strawberries soaked in wine, picnics in the mountains around Lake Garda, laughing with family and friends, and so much more...
